Ladies and gents, this week we introduce you to our lovely Claudia Cassar! Bringing fun into legal!
How did your career in EveryMatrix start? What’s your favorite thing about working here?
After a few years of practicing as a litigation lawyer, I decided to look for a legal role in the thriving iGaming sector.
I landed at our old office in cold and snowy Bucharest in January 2013 for my first week of training. We were a small team made up of 2 lawyers at the time, so I had the chance to handle a wide range of tasks across Legal and Compliance, which was a great learning opportunity for me.
My favorite thing about working at EveryMatrix is its warm, authentic, and open environment. I’ve enjoyed watching the company grow and mature over the years, in terms of technology, product and service offering, client portfolio, new market entry, and of course, staff- in 2013, we were around 70 people, and now we are close to 700. I am surrounded by smart and inspiring colleagues.
I also appreciate the company’s agility which keeps me on my toes – I can’t say that I’ve ever had a boring or dull day since I joined!
What was your first job?
I had plenty of summer jobs to fund my teenage pursuits: cold calling, waiting tables, a beach club reception, and teaching foreign students English. The most interesting one was transcribing tapes for a forensic expert.
What’s one of your biggest work pet peeves?
Noise, interruptions, and distractions when I am focusing on a task or need to meet a deadline, although I’ve gotten better at tuning it out.
Are you an early bird or a night owl? Give us your top productivity piece of advice.
I am one of those annoying morning people. I enjoy getting a head start on the day and getting things done when it’s quiet, and the rest of the world is sleeping. I try to keep my nights for unwinding as much as possible.
For productivity, I schedule my day, tackling non-negotiable and complex tasks first. I also make time to take regular breaks and have a chat or a laugh with my colleagues to recharge.
What personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I have a constant desire to improve. I stop to acknowledge and celebrate successes; however, I also consistently identify ways to strengthen myself professionally and personally.
What would you tell your younger self?
Trust your intuition and stay true to yourself.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
The Eurovision Song Contest. It’s a flamboyant display and wild celebration of diversity that I look forward to every year.
Name one thing everyone should add to their Bucket List.
Scuba diving. Becoming one with the marine world, it’s the best way to get away from all the noise, all you hear is the sound of yourself breathing.
What would you do if you were gifted a million dollars, no strings attached?
I would buy a house near the sea, perhaps have a little left over for a boat, and make beautiful memories with my loved ones.
Share a photo of your favorite pet!
What are your most-used emojis? I am not a big emoji user, I usually stick to 😀❤️👍
Name 3 apps you couldn’t live without. I could live without any app- but Google Maps, Calendar and Email are the most useful.
And finally, give us an idea for our upcoming Summer Party. Pick a theme! Let’s tap into our inner child and have a “When I grow up” party. Would be interesting to see my colleagues’ childhood aspirations.
Thanks for the insights, Claudia! It’s great getting to know you better!
