Coffee Break with EM – Anton Lin

We are continuing our interview series with Anton Lin, our CFO. Read more below about Anton and find out about how his career started, what are his hobbies and what advice he would give to his younger self.

How did your career in EveryMatrix start? What’s your favorite thing about working here?

A friend working at EM told me the CFO role was opening, and I thought it was a great place to join a booming sector. Favorite thing- I’ve had a chance to get to know some new cultures, especially Romania and its people, and I look forward to more of that with other countries where we have offices.

What was your first job?

I was an officer in the British Army.

What’s one of your biggest work pet peeves?

Can I answer the opposite question? I love having animals around- dogs, cats, fish, whatever.

Are you an early bird or a night owl? Give us your top productivity piece of advice.

Accidental early bird. Productivity- make sure you’re clear on what you’re trying to achieve and why before you start to do it.

What personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

Not sure I’ve been that successful…but a trait that’s useful in my type of role is being able to obsess over details and then suddenly zoom out to a high-level view. I happen to forget all the details each time I do that, which my team finds really annoying- sorry!

What would you tell your younger self?

Learn languages. I am amazed by the linguistic fluency of so many of our colleagues in second, third, and even fourth languages.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

Food. It’s so pleasurable I don’t even feel that guilty.

Name one thing everyone should add to their Bucket List.

Everyone should spend some time in a completely different culture; it’s a privilege and an education.

What would you do if you were gifted a million dollars, no strings attached?

I would give it to my family.

Share a photo of your favorite pet!

What are your most-used emojis?

The only thing that is weirder than someone in Silicon Valley coding emojis for ’a bowl of noodles’ and ‘fortune cookie’ is that I use them so much.

Name 3 apps you couldn’t live without.

I couldn’t live without Email, WhatsApp, or Calendar.

And finally, give us an idea for our upcoming Summer Party. Pick a theme!

It would be pretty amusing if 300 people were all dressed as sarmale!

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts, Anton! We sure need to do a sarmale party at some point!
